Costs of DUIs

COSTS OF DUI  (§ 316.193)

ARREST:

$500 +             BAIL

$2000 +          ATTORNEY'S FEES (non-refundable + more if involves property 
                                                                damage and/or injury)(upwards of $10000 + for DUI - 
                                                                manslaughter)

$500 +             COSTS POSSIBLY INCURRED RELATING TO DEFENSE

 

ADMINSTRATIVE SUSPENSION:

-license suspended six (6) months for blowing over legal limit of .08%
-license suspended one (1) year for refusal to take breath test
-license suspended eighteen (18) months if second refusal to take breath test

(In order to obtain a work permit, must show proof of enrollment in DUI school & request hearing = $$$)

$233*              DUI SCHOOL (12 hrs class time & evaluation - Level I)
$363*              ADV. DUI SCHOOL (21 hrs class time & eval. - Level II)

*Plus additional $$$ for further treatment recommended by DUI school

 

IF CONVICTED OR PLEAD TO DUI:

$406                BASIC COURT COSTS PLUS 5% of AMOUNT OF FINE 
                          ($233 + $30 + $3 + $15 + $135) + 5%

$1500              MINIMUM FINE (1st offense)

$40                  VICTIM AWARENESS PROGRAM
                          (2 hr course thru Central Florida Safety Counsel)

$75 (1st day)  IGNITION INTERLOCK DEVICE (very expensive) 
                          ($$$ each day)

$50-$75/mo.  COST OF SUPERVISION ON PROBATION (typically 1 yr)

$50/day          COST OF INCARCERATION

$$$                    VEHICLE IMMOBILIZATION (typically 30 days)

$$$                    COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS (can be bought out at $10/hr)

 

MISC. COSTS:

$120 + $4/mile       TOWING

$250 +                       BASIC REINSTATMENT OF D/L

$$$                              HEARING FOR PERMIT 
                                     (after proof of completion of DUI School)

$$$                              LOSS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

-May be designated as Habitual Traffic Offender by DHSMV if this is third DUI and/or DWLS within five years and will lose license for five years with NO permit for at least one year.

-fines and costs, etc., enhanced if blow is over .15%

-additional sanctions by auto insurance companies - sometimes termination of policy
